- Fifa president Gianni Infantino has insisted on Instagram that he has “never been more determined and committed” to doing “what is right” for football, indicating he has no intention of stepping down amid mounting pressure over governance concerns.
- European footballing body Uefa is seeking access to court files regarding a proposed 20 billion dollar private investment vehicle for the World Cup, threatening potential legal action in Switzerland if the commercial entity was undervalued.
- Football Association chair and Fifa vice-president Debbie Hewitt has demanded full disclosure of files relating to the investment proposal and the Folarin Balogun case, intending to confront Infantino at the Fifa Council meeting on 15 October.
- Infantino has also drawn criticism for “woefully inadequate” co-operation with an investigation by US House Judiciary Committee members examining his ties to US president Donald Trump.
- While Infantino builds support in Saudi Arabia and Qatar ahead of next year's election to secure a fourth term, Uefa has promised to put forward a credible challenger before the candidacy deadline on 18 November.
