Meghan Markle had already been drawing scrutiny from within the royal family before she and Prince Harry married. Having spent most of her life in the US, Markle built a career as an actress, with one of her most prominent roles being in the hit legal drama 'Suits.'
In the series, Markle played Rachel Zane, a driven and ambitious paralegal with aspirations of becoming a lawyer. Despite the show's success, a source claimed that Markle's more intimate scenes in the role raised concerns among members of the royal family.
The Royal Family's Concerns
Eliza Roberts, wife of Markle's former co-star Eric Roberts, recently told the Daily Mail that the royal family had reservations about the Duchess of Sussex's role, particularly given its intimate nature. The royal family has long maintained a conservative public image, and Markle was the first former actress to join the institution.
'It's tricky because of the monarchy. Her role in Suits was very sultry. Her making love with another man, that was just — they've never seen anything like that,' Roberts said.
Giving Up Acting
Despite any reservations the royal family may have held, Roberts praised Markle for her work ethic and the sacrifice she made in stepping away from her career. 'She worked so hard to get there. That was just too much. Women don't give up their jobs for a marriage anymore. I understand the intention, and she thought she'd be satisfied with doing good works in the world. But she needs to be acting. She is a young woman who needs to be acting. Meghan is a star. From the second you see her, she just has star quality. It doesn't matter. It was always going to happen,' Roberts said.
Roberts also reflected on how unusual Markle's sacrifice was by modern standards, noting that few women in today's industry would make the same choice. She expressed confidence that a return to the screen was not a matter of if, but when. 'It is time. And Meghan needs to come back to work. I feel like her whole family will support it, and she is amazing,' she added.
Online Reaction
Not everyone shared Roberts' view of Markle's talent. Some social media users were critical of her performance as Rachel in 'Suits,' arguing that her acting had never matched the level of attention she received. 'She will never be a successful actress in Hollywood. Suits proved this,' one person wrote. Another added: 'The TV show Suits was super dope until Meghan Markle pulls up. I am sure Harry feels the same way about his life.'
Others were more dismissive of the conversation altogether, suggesting that public interest in Markle had run its course. The divided reaction reflects a broader pattern in how Markle is received online, where even positive coverage tends to attract significant pushback from detractors.

What Is Next for Meghan Markle
At the time of publication, Markle had not announced any plans to return to acting, though those close to her have suggested the door remains open. Roberts' comments reflect a broader sentiment among people in Markle's circle that her Hollywood chapter is far from finished.
