UNCOVERED: Pentagon reportedly expected to send thousands of troops to middle east - The Untold Story

A new report has indicated that the Pentagon is expected to deploy 3,000 to 4,000 soldiers from the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division to the Middle East, a move that would deepen the American military buildup in the region as fighting tied to the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran continues.

Two anonymous people familiar with the matter told Reuters that the troops would come from the elite division based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, though they did not specify where the soldiers would be sent or when they would arrive. The expected deployment would follow another major reinforcement reported by Reuters last week, when the United States moved thousands of additional Marines and sailors toward the Middle East.

That earlier deployment included roughly 2,500 Marines aboard the USS Boxer and other warships, supplementing the approximately 50,000 U.S. troops already under U.S. Central Command in the region. Reuters reported at the time that no final decision had been made to send American ground forces into Iran itself, but the additional personnel were meant to expand Washington's military options.

Reuters said the 82nd Airborne troops now under consideration are part of one of the Army's best-known rapid response formations. The division is designed for fast deployment in crises, and the Army says it regularly trains for airborne operations as part of its Immediate Response Force mission. The 82nd, which specializes in parachute assault and rapid entry into contested areas, has long been used by Washington as one of its first options when the United States wants to show force quickly or reinforce an unstable theater.

The buildup is reportedly taking place even as President Donald Trump has publicly suggested there could still be talks with Tehran, and despite previously denying it, an Iranian Foreign Ministry official confirmed that the country had received "points from the U.S. through mediators and they are being reviewed."

U.S. military planners have reportedly examined options that include securing strategic waterways such as the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important oil shipping routes. Any significant reinforcement of airborne troops is likely to be read by allies and adversaries alike as a signal that Washington wants more flexibility if it needs to protect shipping lanes, deter further attacks, or support additional operations.

The Pentagon has not publicly confirmed the 82nd Airborne deployment, and officials cited in the report did not detail the troops' exact mission. The U.S. and Israel have reportedly hit more than 7,000 targets in Iran since the start of the war.
