A new report has confirmed that Xbox is set to roll out a massive update for its consoles.
The update touches several core areas of the console experience, from how Gamertags work to how players manage updates and wish lists.
Xbox Unveils Latest Update For Consoles
According to a report by GameRant, Xbox Insiders enrolled in the Alpha Skip-Ahead tier can begin testing the update starting today, getting early access to features before the rest of the Xbox community.
The rollout comes as Xbox continues shifting its overall direction, having recently confirmed that titles like "Gears of War: E-Day" and "Clockwork Revolution" will remain console exclusives rather than launching on PS5.
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate also recently dropped in price from $29.99 a month to $22.99 a month, another move tied to the platform's broader push toward accessibility under new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma.
Massive Changes on Xbox Consoles
One of the more notable changes expands Gamertags from a 12-character limit up to 15 characters, giving players more room to customize their unique identifier. The update also introduces the ability to play games through Xbox Cloud while they continue updating in the background.
If a Game Pass title needs an update, players can launch its cloud version directly from the game card instead of waiting for the download to finish.
Game hub cards themselves are getting a notable upgrade as well. Cards for "Xbox 360" titles will now display achievement progress, captures, and other useful details directly within the card, making backwards compatible games easier to track for players chasing older achievements.
Wish listing is also becoming more convenient, with players now able to add both released and upcoming "Xbox" games straight from the game card itself. This builds on an earlier update that separated Home and My Games and Apps into their own distinct sections, giving players one consolidated place to browse everything they have saved for later.
Early Access for Xbox Insiders
With several major titles on the horizon, including "Fable," "Gears of War: E-Day," "Clockwork Revolution," and "Halo: Campaign Evolved," these usability improvements are meant to make the overall console experience smoother heading into a busy release lineup.
Anyone interested in trying these features early can join the Xbox Insiders program by downloading the Xbox Insider Hub on their console. From there, signing up for the Alpha Skip-Ahead tier grants access to this current preview, along with future early builds Microsoft rolls out ahead of wider release.
