Get ready to be thirty and flirty and and thriving… on Netflix. On Tuesday, it was announced (via a report from Deadline) that Emily Bader (People We Meet on Vacation, My Lady Jane) and Logan Lerman (Only Murders in the Building, The Perks of Being a Wallflower) will star in a reboot of 13 Going on 30 for Netflix.
The project will reimagine the beloved 2004 romantic comedy led by Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo, and Garner will serve as one of the film’s executive producers. While plot details are currently under wraps, Lerman has reportedly been eyed to play Bader’s love interest “from the jump.”
In the original 13 Going on 30, a 13-year-old girl named Jenna Rink (Christa B. Allen) magically wakes up as her 30-year-old self (played by Garner) and must navigate adulthood while rediscovering who she really is. Directed by Gary Winick, the original film also starred Judy Greer, Andy Serkis, and Brie Larson.
Additionally, it was announced that the 13 Going on 30 reboot will be helmed by Brett Haley, who recently directed Bader in People We Meet on Vacation. Haley, whose filmography also includes All the Bright Places and All Together Now, will direct a script written by Hannah Marks (Mark, Mary, & Some Other People) with revisions by Flora Greeson (The Princess Diaries 3).
“13 Going on 30 is one of those rare, perfect films. Funny, emotional, deeply human, with unforgettable performances from Jennifer Garner, Mark Ruffalo and Judy Greer,” Haley said in a statement. “I’m a longtime fan, so stepping into this reimagining comes with tremendous responsibility.”
“Jennifer Garner being on board as an executive producer, after playing such a big part of what made the original special, is especially meaningful,” Haley continued. “I also couldn’t be more excited to reunite with Emily Bader after People We Meet on Vacation. She and the amazingly talented Logan Lerman are a magical pairing. I feel incredibly lucky to be trusted with something that means so much to so many people.”
The Latest 13 Going on 30 Remake…
This isn’t the first time that 13 Going on 30‘s story has been retold since the film’s initial debut. A stage musical version, also executive produced by Garner, began to be in development in early 2025. Directed by Andy Fickman and produced by Hamish Greer, 13 Going on 30: The Musical ran at the Manchester Opera House in the U.K. for several weeks this past fall.
“After more than 20 years- I still get to talk about Jenna Rink and 13 Going on 30 more days than not- who knew our quirky little movie would have such staying power?” Garner said in a statement at the time.
There’s no telling, at this point, how this new Netflix iteration of 13 Going on 30 will differ from the original. Will it pull a Freakier Friday and lean into the pop culture and overall attitude of the new generation? Will it exist in the same universe as the first film, or be a full-on retelling? And what job will the protagonists have, now that Jenna Rink’s fashion editor job feels like even more of a dream than it did at the turns of the century? The possibilities are endless.
