I hate to say it but it's true. I used to think it was really sweet if a guy knew he wanted to have kids. Now when a guy who is not even in a relationship insists he's going to have kids, especially with a specific timeline, I tread lightly. People ask me if I want to have kids and I'm mind blown. How could I make that decision when I don't even know who I'm going to have them with yet? It's wonderful to know that you might want kids, but to already decide you're going to have them even though you don't know who you will have them with or raise them with? Why is that a normal expectation we put on people? We normalize prioritizing personal goals outside of a partner and then are shocked when the partner doesn't show up or be fully involved the way we want. Maybe because we made these plans without actually considering who they were or what their needs were..

I totally get it. For the first time ever, I found out the drawer below the oven can come out, and there's a metal plate, not open floor, underneath the drawer. I found a mouse turd on that metal plate. I wash EVERYTHING in that drawer in bleach water, cleaned my oven and been checking behind and under my stove every day. There used to be a bait trap there. My daughter heard a commotion one day. When I got home from work I moved the stove and saw a bunch of mouse poop with blue stuff and also you don't want to know what else. It took about a week and a lot of cleaned before I started feeling comfortable enough to contemplate cooking in the kitchen. The blue meant that the mouse ate the poison. It likely ran into a wall and died. The bait poison apparently dissolved the mice inside so they're not supposed to just decay. But I also hear that's not always guaranteed. Eww. I threw out the bait trap, that had gross things falling out of it. So nasty.

Me too. I mean, I'm sure there's a reason to get rid of them that has to do with keeping the lawn from dying or keep roots from some weeds from digging in to your pipes and such, but it drove me crazy that my dad had to mow the lawn every damn week. I really hate super manicured lawns. Especially those Edward Scissorhands-style rounded and manicured bushes. Also- who decided grass was only allowed to be a half an inch tall? My father thought the same. He told me to get an abortion, or give the baby up. He thought I was throwing my life away. I refused, and gave birth to my lovely daughter. He has spent the whole of my daughter's life, almost 30 years, trying to make up for what he said after I told him I was expecting. He loves her dearly, and despite what he said then, he is proud of me for standing my ground. Mom in the story can say what she wants, and it is her house - she doesn't have to share, but she shouldn't be surprised that her daughter won't talk to her right now. And while you may think the "poor silly girl" is ruining her life, you are judging someone without knowing them. It might be bad, but then again, it might be the best thing that ever happens to this young lady.

Oh yes and mice don't have a collarbone. This means they can get through a gap about the size of their head or about 10mm. They have to be getting in somehow. It also means to work at one room at a time. Pull all furniture out to the centre and search hard for the smallest gaps near the floor. I did that. I always took cats & dog with me and closed the door. One day I was on my knees covering a wee hole near the floor when the cats disturbed a hiding mouse. The wee mouse ran to me and along my arm straight to where I was holding the mouse wire in place. It knew it wasn't getting out that way so ran back along my arm straight into the cat ... who had her claws ready. I hope you get sorted.

Mice will eat anything so be careful that they don't eat any flex/wires connected to the cooker. I would ask your landlord about keeping a cat. My cats just kill a mouse but never eat it. I don't know for certain but if a mouse ever ate poison it shouldn't harm a cat. Failing that but doesn't cat urine a deter mice? Perhaps some used cat litter. When I first moved in someone put down mouse glue on a sheet of cardboard with wildbird seed in the centre. They never told me what it was but said not to go into the room. I eventually saw the glue traps with three and two mice in them. I would never have used them as they're inhumane and from the end of July, this year, they're now illegal to use in the UK.

I hope you don't mind me mentioning about the food and cooker. It's just that two winters ago I noticed the dog staring at the oven. I opened the oven door and a mouse was inside looking at me. I quickly closed the door then put my smaller cat in side the oven. She caught the mouse. I find I'm always checking the oven now.

Recently a teacher, talking on Radio 4, was telling how many young children start going to his school with an American accent. This is the UK. He said the parents had their mobile phones and the kids were constantly on an ipad. I don't know what is more sad. That or the fact that many children weren't potty trained before starting school. Parent were dropping of their child insisting it was the teachers job to teach them to use the toilet. The teacher said every time a nappy needed changed two teachers had to be present and that disrupted the classes a lot.
