Same here. I’ve been in my immediate neighbour’s house once, and never in the neighbour opposite me, but I talk to them all the time and take parcels in for each other. My neighbour a few doors away is an occasional friend, we have a cuppa once every few months and catch up, and that’s it.

A lot of hotels in the UK have AC too, and some pubs and restaurants, it’s not that uncommon, but also I think prior to this heatwave, the last one where it was really bad was two years ago when it was 40 degrees for two days. Even during this one, it was only on Friday (where I live) when it was too hot to open the windows, and even having the blinds down and curtains drawn, it wasn’t enough. Actually, it’s so breezy today, I’m going to change from shorts to trousers!

Not in the UK. This is because too many accidents have happened from stupid people sticking their arms or heads out and losing limbs/life. So now we are not able to open the windows.

I'd have to say I disagree. My wife and I are friendly with our immediate neighbours and it is beneficial to both households. We take in parcels for each other, put out/take back the bins as well as keeping an eye on each other's houses when either couple is away. I tend to mow both front lawns (they are connected and it would be difficult to only mow my half), as my neighbour mows a lot of the local communal grassy areas (he has a petrol mower, but I'm limited by an electrical power socket). But we don't live on top of each other. In six years, we've not been in their house and they've been in ours once (to witness a legal document for me). This, to me, is the perfect level of neighbourly friendship that benefits both parties equally.
