We wanted to get to grips with taking cat photos, so we reached out to a professional. Toronto-based pet photographer Karen Weiler told Bored Panda that when it comes to pet portraits, she finds that getting down to the level of the pet produces beautiful portraits. "However, it really depends on the type of pet photography shot you are trying to create—shooting from underneath or below eye-level or from above can capture other aspects of their personality," she explained. In other words, different angles will have different effects, so that's something to keep in mind as you search for that 'purrfect' shot for your supermodel cat. And getting down to eye level might work wonders for one of your pets but not another.
Karen also opened up about the prepwork that she does before she takes pictures of pets. "I ask that the pet be free of mats and dirt/debris. Once in the studio, I have a brush and towel available to ensure kitty is picture ready," she said.
Meanwhile, the owner also has a responsibility to make their pet look 'meowgnificent' sooner rather than later. "If they take their cat to a groomer for an appointment, I generally suggest that they have that done a week prior to the session—not the day of."

In a previous interview, Karen explained to Bored Panda that lighting is the most important thing in photography. Add a relaxed and happy pet into the mix and you’ll have a winning photo.
Cats are different from pets like dogs because they respond much more to movement, so you can grab their attention before taking a snap by using a toy. (Catnip also works in a pinch.) Now that should help you turn your super cat into a supermodel.
In my mind, there are 5 parts to looking like the feline version of Cara Delevingne. The first part is genetics which we can’t really do anything about, but the second part is equally as important (if not more)—health! Oh, Hi
You also need proper grooming and an owner who can work the camera well. Lastly, it’s all about confidence, baby! You gotta believe you’re a supermodel cat to be seen as a supermodel cat!
But the most important thing is making sure that your cat’s healthy and fit. So make sure you spend a sliver of your time each day playing with it so it (and you) moves around. However, unlike dogs, cats don’t need that much exercise to stay fit. What’s most important is regulating portion size and making sure they eat proper food.
Also, be sure to speak to your vet about any vitamins or supplements you might need to give your pet to turn its fur into a shining coat meant for the red carpet.
